The Final Countdown

 

The app is counting down to midnight. It causes a little anxiety because I know I have 24 hours, not 12 but Disney and I might have to agree to disagree.

Serriff and I are getting doing final preparations, including a little shopping. 


While out I got a nice large coconut, and Serriff got a strawberry lassi, and it was all great! Apparently in Little India, Lassi is like Bubble Tea! We also saw some drinks called "dinosaur" drinks, with a flavor in the drink and then a pile of power on top, like cocoa powder. I want to try making them!

I hear the Disney Adventure is now in port, so I think we need to go see her today!!

Lit up for twilight, the Adventure is quite beautiful! Serriff and I had a picnic dinner of smoothies and rice bowls at the waterfront park, overlooking the port. Just one more day!!

Just a side note, there probably will not be many evenings in port for this ship. She is scheduled for cruising 7 days a week starting tomorrow, she will cast off at 1600, so most people will not see her lit up like this in the evening from land.

My kids have given me a lot grief about dysentery. Kind of ironic because our travels will lead us to Oregon in a matter of days. Thankfully we had plenty of concerned family, air conditioning, and access to the needed medicines. It was so wonderful to see my aunt and cousins again. We were starting to feel under the weather before arriving at my aunty's, so even though she was worried about how sick we got, there is no way she caused it. She did ensure we were in good health before we left, otherwise she would have had the doctor come to the house and give us IV fluids.

Goodbye, Mumbai

It's only now that I truly feel like I am on my way home. Only a couple minutes into our flight, and the lights, glitz and squalor of Mumbai have been left behind as our jet races over the Arabian Sea. Briefly I spotted the lights of a cargo ship reflecting off the water but even that faded into the night, slipping over the horizon.  With a murmured "Goodbye Mumbai," my visit to India truly feels done. The one big difference this visit from other visits is in the past there has been this feeling of finality. When I was 10 years old, I had no real control over when or how I might return. Years later when I was 18 years old, I had some degree of autonomy but no true financial ability to return. Another thirteen years after that, I was lucky enough to have a brief visit but as a father to young children, raising them was the top priority for both time and money. Now it's different. Day 0.5. -S

Spoilers for Blue Beatle ahead. There will be a photo when they're over! So, they had some free spirits on the flight. I got me some Vodka, and that was before the meals! They had some interesting movies. The first one I chose to watch was the Blue Beetle movie, and so far it feels kinda like Spider-man, but still very different. Both follow a younger person trying to find his way in the world, getting powers, and not having the most common sense. It's really fun and kinda relatable. I would like the main character to stop flirting tho, he's doing the "dumb in love" things. I like the venom kinda look the scarab has when he transforms tho.
