New Delhi Day 1 (continued)
First, I think it's important to note that everyone experiences travel stress, jet lag and food lag differently.
What's food lag? Well, jet lag is when my brain's clock thinks the sun rises and sets at another time zone. Food lag is when my blood sugar thinks meal times belong on a different time schedule.
Now, since the kids and I are "night owls" we can shift from USA time zones to Asian time zones pretty easily, but meal times are apparently a different story. So when we had the opportunity for Indian food and Asian macaroni for breakfast, it was a "Yes, please!" Wash it down with lychee juice!
The saga of the cell phone SIM card was the big story of yesterday. I brought some older iPhones and thought it would be quick to pop local SIM cards in them. The popping is easy. Getting them was an ordeal.
We walked to the local shop. They could not help. It was a "child shop" and could not issue SIMs. We needed to go to the "Parent Shop." Neither place had good parking, so our driver couldn't take us. He flagged down a rickshaw and told the driver to take my dad and I to the store, wait there and bring us back. The look on his face was like "Why did I stop?" But he took us. Then my dad needed his phone from the hotel. The poor rickshaw driver took him back to the hotel, leaving me at the store and he came back with my son as well! Another 45 minutes later, we got 2 functional SIMs. And we agreed to pay the rickshaw driver extra. It was the Hindu New Year and he was very patient!
We did some sightseeing, including a temple (no cameras allowed) and the patriotic India Gate and retired to the hotel. The kids had room service dinner, and I went to bed at my normal bedtime. For the US. I'll be dealing with Jet Lag for a while!
More pictures and videos to come!
